I really don't know why I took so long to do a post on the talented Jonathan Schipper. He really is one of a kind and I assure you his sculptures/installations/machines will amaze/challenge/confuse you in the best way possible.
I included his descriptions for each of his pieces below
MEASURING ANGST
TO DUST
SLOW INEVITABLE DEATH OF AMERICAN MUSCLE
I really enjoy his work. Its so different and unique and he challenges the boundaries of what we consider art. And thats what makes it amazing. The fact that the only rule is that there are no rules!
I included his descriptions for each of his pieces below
MEASURING ANGST
"Birth and death are only a rewind button away. This is a world where meaning is found in a videotape. That videotape can be both rewound and fast forwarded, endlessly replaying the best events again and again. Will the physical world eventually be subject to the same rules?"
TO DUST
"Two sculptures are hung from a mechanism that gently grinds them into each other. The sculptures will slide against one another for many years creating new unimagined form"
SLOW INEVITABLE DEATH OF AMERICAN MUSCLE
"This sculpture is a machine that advances two full sized automobiles slowly into one another over a period of 6 days, simulating a head on automobile collision. Each car moves about three feet into the other. The movement is so slow as to be invisible."SWING SET
"Three bodies are suspended from a large gantry crane and mechanically shaken at the audience's discretion."
