"Think outside the box, collapse the box, and take a fucking sharp knife to it." — Banksy

Artist: JR

I can't tell you when or how I fell in love with graffiti. I just did. I doodle at the back of every book. I draw on every school table. I notice scratches on walls and murals on fences. What I didn't realize though was that street art is a movement. From Swoon, Blu or Banksy to the unknown vandalist with a spray paint can, everyone has a message to send. Enjoy some of my favourite street artworks.

Hello Hurricane

This is a mixed media collage by Carol Nelson I found browsing Daily Painters Abstract Art Gallery. She used cedar bedding, sand, foil and fabric paint for the textured part at the top. I fell in love and just had to share!!

Women are Heroes

I should be studying for an organic chemistry test but since that plight is hopeless I decided to search for some inspiration instead. I found this amazing video of a french street artist called JR. His project is entitled Women are Heroes. I'm incredibly excited because I've loved his work so I decided to share this with you. And also the promised street art post is coming soon, I haven't forgotten.

The project  has been described as follows :
The idea is so simple on paper, and yet so arresting in its execution. JR's team took photos of women living in conflict zones from Kanya and Nairobi to Brazil, blowing up the black and white portraits to plaster them on train cars and on shop walls and the stairs of the communities where the women lived. The photo-posters, which capture women in goofy and dignified and joyful expressions, change the landscape of the neighborhoods temporarily, and also demand locals to see women in a new light

At night, I open the window and ask the moon to come and press its face against mine.

I found a photographer that I am absolutely smitten with. Every collection is just breathtaking and romantic and and and pastel-y. ☺. Her name is Irene Suchocki and she's from Canada. Below are my absolute favourites but you can see more at http://www.irenesuchocki.com/

Yes I know, its a very long post but its only because I'm in love.

p.s. I know i say I'm in love a lot but its the only way I can describe the euphoria I feel when I find and artist or a work of art that just moves me!

spokenWord

Another edition of spoken Word poetry that just makes me melt enjoy :
More spoken word (here) & (here)

Sidenote : I've actually had this post lingering in drafts for quite a while. But I decided to post it today because it reminds me of the time my friends and I were walking through what is supposed to be a dangerous community and one of my friends said : " Rule number one : Don't Smile, Rule number two : BOMP! " I guess it was one of those youhadtobethere jokes but at the time it was hilarious.

Anyone who says sunshine brings happiness, never danced in the rain...

Today's post is on the art of dance. I would trade a kidney if i could dance, even just a little! Enjoy some of my absolute favorite dance-inspired art pieces. Some are oil, some watercolor (yay!), some abstract and some very literal. I apologize for not being able to get the artists for you but I found these via art galleries online that listed the works by theme and not artist.

ALWAYS ALWAYS loved graffiti! This piece is done by a street artist named Blu, who put his drawings on a loop. I'm kind of obsessed so expect a post on street art soon but in the mean time check out http://vandalog.tumblr.com for all the latest scribbles on walls from different parts of the globe.
